Mikat, Saudi Arabia
November 12, 2010
Mikat is where pilgrims prepare to begin the Hajj. They bathe and change into the traditional clothing that is required for the Hajj. Men wear the Ihram, two sheets of white cloth, and women wear head coverings, or hijab. Pilgrims are prohibited from violence, sexual activity, and grooming to ensure their purity.
Why do you think pilgrims are required to wear this clothing? How is it related to the idea of a universal faith?
